Onions and Onions
Onions and their cousins are #1 in my book. How much do you know about onions do you really know what an awesome food they are. Leeks, shallots, scallions carry great compounds that give us protection from various well known and familiar health related problems. Onions carry fat, calcium, vitamin c and carbs not much but there are presents. How many knew this veggie had it going on in nutrition? It was years before I knew. All I ever knew was I have always fine of onions. Flavonoid is a familiar word use in my web pages now and then. It's familiar to foods. Quercetin is a flavonoid found in onions and carries an antioxidant punch that will make most of us with lower back pains sit up with out help. Smile
Researchers say there are over 5 conditions onions can battle. If you want a well needed veggie keep onions in mind.
Oh! I almost forgot that famous and familiar onion the (red onion).
This onion I enjoy in most salads, to eat them cooked is not my choice. I have eaten them in chutney. There is sulfur in onions and sulfur is great for many things in health except for the tears when peeling onions. I was recently was told by a friend that she was told to eat more onions because of her asthma attacks??? This is something you can ask your medical team. It doesn't take a basket of onions to be good for you; in my case I just enjoy them in most everything. I never thought I would eat them in any kind of fruits until I ate chutney. Now shallots are related to onions but they have a private thing gong on 1 tbsp of chopped shallots offers vitamin A you know how important vitamin A is to the elderly (guards against vision problems? I believe the immune system also, why? When I get a cold I eat a lot of onions soup and salads with plenty onion I do start feeling better?? I always mix my onions in my soups and salads what I call a "house onion", (the one with the dark golden skin. The shallot and Vidalia are full of flavors. Eat plenty of this veggie and get the other great compounds they offer for better health. Ask your team about onions and "adenosine, paraffinic. The onion s health goodness can go on and on I have given you enough information for you to start asking question to your health leaders.
Don't forget to include onions in all of he delicious cooking you will be doing for the holidays.
I enjoy foods as well as any one, but because of my health conditions I want to know all I can so I can help myself much better through my foods. Being healthy leyes in many areas for many of us we have not been born the same, we have different sets of parents with passing GENES and DNA, this is normal and correct. Please pattern your health according to you not friends or associates.
Even the closets relation has their own pattern of health.
Warm dish of Diana's Chutney- 1 cup diced Vidalia onions, 1cup dry chopped figs; ½ cup diced fresh peaches, ½ cup firm pears, ½ cup can apricots with ½ cup apricot juice. Stir well place in a sauce pan warm well covered until onion is soft. Added sweetener is optional.
There are very few foods that onions don't make a dent in. Grandparents start the little ones on onions that surely will not be loosing anything.
Save the juice on the next jar of sweet pickles. Add thick onion rings, place in refrigerator
Until chilled. Place on dinner table and watch the inquire fellows ask "grand mom what is this" let them have a ring or two. Or place in their favorite salad.
Sugar have been used to enticed little ones to eat for decades, I don't swear on this trick but does help sometime, let's face it they will not accept foods like we do as adults they have to be coached into it at times. This is why sugar is introduced so early to children.
It was used this way on me when I was a child, it didn't make me crave sweets. I used it a couple times with my children when beets and winter squash were introduced to them; they ate both veggies at an early age with less and less sugar until none.
