                               Nutrition Month

 

 

 

Yes friends it is back again, seems as though it came quick. Our bodies need for strong fighting antioxidants can be done by choosing foods and drinks filled with good nutrients.  This is the month that has been given the pleasure in talking about nutrition on a non-stop run. As the years go by I have noticed the hollering concerning nutrition has faded some what. It is mentioned constantly through the year on the tube, but friends it will take more than that if we want the seniors as well as the young to know and understand how very important nutrition is for the body’s to obtain the best building blocks possible.

 

We as seniors need that extra touch of caring and understanding in the field of just what foods do for us other than stamp out being hungry. If you have a chance to discuss the power of good choices in foods that reward with better health so many of us are blank. Many have gotten to the point since they are older they don’t care, and others just do not know. I asked like I always do when a person has gout, what are they doing about it?

 

Most answer the same thing I am not eating any red meat, like what? beef. All animals meat is red chicken is not as intense regarding gout. Most people that have this know little to nothing, if they are reading they do not understand. This same person says they eat plenty of liver.

 

Friends read how I am taking care of my gout hopefully with your medical teams ok it may be able to help you. Remember make no changes with health conditions until you get that OK from your medical team.

 

There is no shame in not knowing, the shame should be in not wanting to know, ignoring the truth and not wanting to accept the truth.

3/2012            Nutrition Month

 

Here we go again. What is recognized this month should be every day of the year. Yes I know eating healthy is hard for many. Take that dip of chocolate ice cream and magically turn into a plump delicious apple, I know who wants a trade like that, really not many. We do have to put healthy before desires. I have found that homemade ice cream and sherbets can be better and easy. All you need is a ice cream maker and some imagination. These machines come reasonable in price, compact in size and offer great recipes with the machines. The following are a couple my treats. Pick up that ice cream maker soon. A variety can be found in most large stores that carry appliances.

 

Banana Royal

Serves 3

 

2 medium slice bananas

½ tsp banana flavoring

¼ cup chunky pineales

1 cup dice peaches

1/ tsp vanilla flavoring

16 ounces low fat milk

Sweeten to taste

 

 Make sure the machine rules are followed before use.

Drain fruit add to container given, along with sweetener, flavoring, milk slice banana, and other fruits. Follow directions  and in a few you will have a light tasty ice cream.

 

This is a great way to get your fruits. Keep a variety of flavorings in your pantry. When going healthy you have to use a lot of imagination in order to have satisfaction in your foods. At this time in life we do know right from wrong and we also know what is ealthy and what is not. If you have food related health conditions, come on you need to stay on board to healthy, happy eating.

 

How about a happy salad that shines healthy?

 

On a pre chilled plate add salad leaves, slice cooked lean beef, slice red onions, slice cucumbers, shredded carrots, fresh large leaf parsley, cooked soy beans.

Make your dressing low in fat, sodium and sugar.

This could easy be a dinner also. Nothing comes easy when it becomes a most to do, with no going around the issues.

 

Nutrition month has been in focused for decades, each year I see this month growing in the right direction. This is a month that shouldn’t be pushed aside every effort to help and guide the people in the correct direction of health should be done at any time.
